Lab 7 Excel Execution Empty Laser wavelength

Post  Physics1 Tue Mar 24, 2009 8:26 pm

Were we suppose to record the wavelength from the laser itself or do we calculate it?
Thanx

The wavelength was noted in the manual, i think its like 632 nm or something around there. not sure though so double check, and convert it to meters

Hair diameter by diffraction can be found using the equation we formulated in the lab prep

Lab 7 Excel Execution Empty B

Post  yikes Wed Mar 25, 2009 3:34 pm

I couldn't find the hair diameter from diffraction (B). I tried using the m*lambda=b(x/D) but it didn't work. As for the lab prep, we found something like b = D*lambda/s, but what is that 's'?

thanks

what the heck is s for the hair diameter for diffraction?
the error for it is probably ( cant test it since i don't have s)
rel error = sqrt(((DeltaD/D)^2)+((Deltas/s)^2)) either that or
rel error = sqrt(((DeltaD/D)^2)+((Deltas/s)^2))*b

Cant edit....
i am an idiot S is slope
so B=D*lamda/slope
error = sqrt(((DeltaD/D)^2)+((Deltas/s)^2))*b

I have tried sooo many numbers and I can't get any slope errors to work on my excel sheet. Does anyone have any ideas what the error in slope should be?

Lab 7 Excel Execution Empty error in slope

Post  f Thu Mar 26, 2009 11:05 am

Professor,

I've been plugging in values for the slope for a while now. You mentioned above that if might turn green because one or two of the points aren't on the line. This is not the case for my graph, any other ideas as to why it would not turn green?

.0001 or similar.

You can use the preliminary deviation from 0.

The answer should be in question five of the pre-lab.

Can anybody explain to me the reasoning behind the "many slits, goin toward the diffraction grating" on the last execution sheet?

Much appreciated!
