Question 1: (1 point)
A 5.373 N force directed north and a 3.29 N force directed east act on an object of 456.3 grams. What is the acceleration of the object (sheet 5)?
How to solve:
Use a^2+b^2=c^2
5.373^2+3.29^2=c^2
c^2=39.6932
c=6.3003
Then use F=M*A to solve for a (change grams to kg)
6.3003/.4653=A
A=13.8073
Question 2: (1 point)
A 4.888 N force directed west and a 3.879 N force directed south act on a 1.93 kg object. What is the direction of the object's acceleration (sheet 5)? Give the direction as an angle in degrees and measured from the west direction going counter clockwise.
How to solve:
First take the arctan of the first force divided by the second.
arctan(4.888/3.879)=51.5653
then subtract your number from 90 degrees
90-51.5653=38.43468
Question 3: (1 point)
A 2.077 kg block is held at rest on a plane which is inclined by 14.82 degrees with respect to the horizontal. The force holding the object on the plane is directed parallel to the inclined plane. What is the magnitude of this force (sheet 11,13, neglect friction)?
How to solve:
Question 4: (1 point)
A person's mass is 64.82 kg. What is the person's apparent weight when riding in an elevator which moves with constant velocity (sheet 16)? Indicate with a positive (negative) sign whether the result is the same (is not the same) as for the elevator at rest.

Question 3
Question 3
A 2.077 kg block is held at rest on a plane which is inclined by 14.82 degrees with respect to the horizontal. The force holding the object on the plane is directed parallel to the inclined plane. What is the magnitude of this force (sheet 11,13, neglect friction)?
How to solve:
2.077 kg * 9.81 * sin(14.82) = 5.2116

Re: Ch 4.1 Help
Solution for problem two worked for me and I tried it on multiple problems before I posted the solution. I hope it is working for most people.
